Enrolled students must maintain a minimum base schedule of Morning (AM) Sessions, the requirements for which vary by class.  To maintain consistency, ease transitions and ensure curriculum fidelity, the weekly configuration for these base schedules is fixed.  This research-based policy allows students to maximize their learning and development, establish comfortable, trusting relationships with teachers and peers, and form and reinforce routines that will prepare them for elementary school. Parents may add more days and/or sessions to the base schedule throughout the year by submitting a Schedule Change Form via Brightwheel, subject to availability.

Class Schedule Policies

Morning (AM) Sessions are the only standalone units of schedule for students enrolled in the Day Program.  Before Care (BC), Lunch Bunch (LB), Afternoon (PM) Sessions must be added onto the minimum base schedule as specified above.

Aftercare (AC) is available as a standalone session only to students arriving from UPK or another care setting for the 3-6pm session.

Before Care

Before Care (BC) provides approximately one hour of free play per day between 8am and 9am with manipulatives, sensory equipment and a variety of puzzles and tactile games in the Common Area supervised and actively facilitated by two of our trained and certified Assistant Teachers.  Families may drop off at any time within that hour.

AM Session

Morning (AM) Session provides approximately three hours of care and instruction per day and includes all core curriculum components, snack time (a school-supplied, healthy snack that is peanut and tree-nut free), circle time, outdoor play (weather-permitting) story time and a centers circuit in each class designed to target specific foundational skills in small groups.  AM Session is led by one trained and certified Head Teacher and two Assistant Teachers per class. AM Session is also when most special events, like Picture Day, holiday celebrations and seasonal crafts, are scheduled to ensure that all students are able to participate.

Lunch Bunch

Lunch Bunch (LB) is an additional hour of care and social routines practice that may be added to one or more AM Sessions per week.  Students learn to observe meal time hygiene, safety and etiquette practices, feed themselves with teacher supervision and facilitation, and enjoy some extra time to chat with friends and teachers in a smaller, stationary group.  Lunch Bunch is led by the same Head Teacher and two Assistant Teachers in the same classroom in which they are enrolled.  Parents who wish to pick up at 1pm should select Lunch Bunch.

PM Session

Afternoon (PM) Session includes the Lunch Bunch hour and additional care and instruction from 12pm to 3pm consisting of curriculum extension, guided play and structured activities with learning objectives, and Enrichment Modules.  It also includes the option to nap in a separate, supervised quiet space (as specified and authorized by parents on the Napping Agreement Form).  PM Session is led by two Head Teachers and one to two Assistant Teachers and may include time in both their regular classroom as well as the common area or another classroom.

Aftercare

Aftercare (AC) is available to all enrolled TTNS students as well as alumni and community members enrolled in UPK and other care settings in the area.  Students enrolled in the Day Program and delivered by their teachers to Aftercare, which is held in the 2s Classroom and led by a trained and certified Head Teacher and one to two Assistant Teachers.

Students enrolled in TUFSD Universal Pre-K (UPK) may be dropped off by a parent or other authorized adult, or they may be bussed to the nearest district-designated bus stop, picked up by a designated Aftercare Assistant Teacher and safely walked to TTNS.  Please note that all transportation arrangements are the responsibility of the parents.  TUFSD requires the submission of an Alternate Site Transportation Form in accordance with its policies and procedures by 8/15, and TTNS must be copied on the submission email. TTNS is not licensed to provide transportation by vehicle and cannot pick up from any location other than the specified district bus stop on foot.

Aftercare offers a school-supplied healthy snack (peanut and tree nut free), supervised and facilitated free play, and one themed, guided activity per day in a mixed-age group of up to 12 students. It also includes the option to nap in a separate, supervised quiet space (as specified and authorized by parents on the Napping Agreement Form).

Parents may pick up at any time in the specified 3pm - 6pm window, and may notify teachers of their ETA at their convenience via Brightwheel if they wish their children to be prepared for pickup prior to 6pm.

Combined Designations

A daily schedule consisting of a combination of AM and PM sessions is considered a Full Day (FD) Schedule.  A daily schedule consisting of all available sessions from 8am - 6pm is considered an All Day (AD) Schedule.  These designations are mainly for administrative use but may also appear in school documents shared with parents of enrolled students.

Enrichment Modules

TTNS offers several Enrichment Programs to all students enrolled in the Day Program in weekly or biweekly modules of approximately twenty minutes.  These modules are embedded in AM and PM Sessions and are led by students’ regular classroom teachers, another designated teacher or certified/contracted instructor, or a combination thereof. Enrichment Modules may be held in students’ regular classrooms, the Common Area or another classroom, and programs include (but are not limited to!) Music, Yoga, Hands-On Science, Art and Spanish.

Drop In Care

For families occasionally needing additional care for their enrolled Day Program student, Drop in care is offered on an ongoing basis for all sessions, subject to availability and staffing.  Drop ins are billed at a separate, additional per-session rate and must be requested and approved in advance (preferably with at least 12 hours notice) via Brightwheel to schedule.
